Résumé

La prise en charge orthopédique d'une dysmorphose dento-faciale, associée à un dysfonctionnement oro-facial, nécessite une stratégie rigoureuse. Une disjonction initiale corrige l'endognathie maxillaire et favorise la ventilation nasale. Le port d'un monobloc rigide permet ensuite de pérenniser cette ventilation et de stimuler la croissance mandibulaire. Seule une telle prise en charge conjointe de la forme et des fonctions assure une correction complète de la dysmorphose.

Abstract

To treat dento-facial malformations occurring in a dysfunctional oral environment effectively orthodontists must employ rigorous therapeutic strategies. First, they should correct the maxillary deficiency by a rapid palatal expansion that will, concurrently, improve nasal ventilation. Next, they should have their patients wear a rigid monobloc appliance that will stabilize this corrected respiration permanently and also stimulate mandibular growth. Only by dealing with both the physical deformities and the impaired function can they be confident of achieving full correction of the deformity.
