Résumé

Cet article a pour buts de montrer l’utilité d‘une bonne coopération entre l’orthodontiste et l‘O.R.L. : la nécessité d’une libération des voies aériennes supérieures pour l‘optimisation du résultat orthodontique ; inversement les effets du traitement orthodontique sur l‘enclenchement d’une libération fonctionnelle des voies aériennes supérieures en l’absence d’obstacle mécanique. Il s’attache à attirer l’attention de l’orthodontiste sur les symptômes conduisant à la demande d’un bilan O.R.L.

Abstract

The goal of this article is to show the benefits orthodontists can derive from enlisting the aid of their ENT colleagues in opening up blocked upper airways in the patients they are treating for correction of malocclusions. But it is equally true that orthodontic correction of malocclusions in patients who have no such mechanical obstruction will trigger an improvement in function of the upper airways. So it is important that orthodontists assess the upper airways in their diagnostic procedures and, when indicated, refer potential patients for an evaluation by an ENT specialist.
