Résumé

Par sa topographie et par son anatomie, la canine est une dent singulière qui possède un rôle clé dans l’organisation des arcades dentaires et dans les fonctions de guidage. Véritable clé de voûte de l’arcade, la canine, qu’elle soit maxillaire ou mandibulaire, est souvent concernée par des variations anatomiques pouvant aller de la bifidité radiculaire à d’importantes courbures du tiers apical. L’ arrivée tardive de la canine permanente sur l’arcade, associée à un long chemin à parcourir avant d’atteindre le site éruptif, peuvent être responsables de malpositions voire d’inclusions. La canine est fréquemment impliquée dans les traitements d’orthodontie, notamment dans les corrections de dysharmonies ou dans la mise en place fonctionnelle et esthétique de la dent sur l’arcade. La décision thérapeutique et la réalisation du traitement orthodontique qui impliquent la canine doivent tenir compte de la morphologie de la dent et de son environnement anatomique. Ces risques peuvent aisément être identifiés au préalable par l’imagerie de type cone beam.

Abstract

Because of its topography and anatomy, the canine is a singular tooth that plays a key role in the organization of the dental arches and in guiding functions. As the keystone of the dental arch, the canine, whether maxillary or mandibular, is often affected by anatomical variations ranging from root bifidity to significant curvature of the apical third. The late arrival of the permanent canine on the arch, combined with a long way to go before reaching the eruption site, can be responsible for malpositions and even inclusions. The canine is frequently involved in orthodontic treatment, particularly in the correction of disharmony or in the functional and aesthetic positioning of the tooth on the arch. Orthodontic treatment decisions involving the canine must take into account the morphology of the tooth and its anatomical environment. These risks can easily be identified in advance using CBCT.
