The mandibulogram : a new complementary examination for the diagnosis and treatment of dissymmetries

Résumé

La téléradiographie en norma axialis donne le plus souvent des images déformées de la mandibule qui rendent le diagnostic imprécis. Le mandibulogramme représente une nouvelle construction qui permet d'obtenir un cliché où la mandibule apparaît en vraie grandeur et en position de relation centrée. Dès lors, le diagnostic des dissymétries devient plus satisfaisant et le traitement chirurgical plus cohérent grâce à la maîtrise du choix du centre de rotation de l'arcade mandibulaire dans le plan horizontal.

Abstract

Axial teleradiographs most often give deformed images of the mandible, which makes diagnosis unclear. The mandibulogram represents a new construction which permits us to obtain an x-ray in which the mandible appears in its true size and in the position of centric relation. Consequently, the diagnosis of dissymmetries becomes more satisfactory and the surgical treatment more coherent thanks to the control over the choice of the mandibular arch center of rotation in the horizontal plane.
