Résumé

Après un rappel des très importants travaux conduits par Eschler sur les muscles à insertion mandibulaire, sur leur variabilité anatomique, tant d'insertion que d'innervation, sur les possibles combinaisons de ces variations et sur leur impact sur la cinématique mandibulaire, l'auteur décrit le syndrome qu'Eschler a mis en évidence à partir de ses travaux et de l'examen électromyographique d'un grand nombre de patients lors de tests de mastication. Il a intitulé ce syndrome : «côté mastiquant - milieu mandibulaire». Celui-ci regroupe les symptômes suivants : activité musculaire dissymétrique, déviation du milieu mandibulaire, mastication préférentielle du côté dévié, plan d'occlusion oblique vers le haut, du côté mastiquant, asymétrie des ATM.

Il recommande de tenir compte de ce trouble dysfonctionnel lors des traitements orthodontiques.

Abstract

After a reminder of the very important works carried out by Eschler on the mandibular insertion muscles, on their anatomical variability, both of insertion as of innervation, on the possible combinations of those variations and their impact on mandibular kinetics, the author describes the syndrome evidenced by Eschler from his works and the elctromyographic examination in a large number of patients during mastication tests. This syndrome has been entitled: «masticating side — mandibular medium». It is characterized by the following symptoms: dissymmetric muscular activity, deviation of the mandibular medium, preferential mastication on the deviated side, oblique plane of occlusion, ascending on the masticating side, T.M.J. asymmetry.

He recommends to take into consideration this dysfunctional disorder during orthodontic treatment.
