Résumé

Le patient ortho-chirurgical est un patient dont la prise en charge est particulière, souvent source d’appréhension pour l’orthodontiste. En effet, au-delà de la pose de la bonne indication et de la maîtrise de la technicité du traitement, elle met le praticien dans une position de coordonnateur d’une équipe pluridisciplinaire centrée sur un patient demandeur de beaucoup d’informations et d’attention. L’abord du patient est donc un processus souvent long, se décomposant en deux phases, une première phase initiale d’information et d’orientation du patient vers les différents acteurs du protocole, à savoir un chirurgien maxillo-facial, un kinésithérapeute ou un orthophoniste. La mise en place d’un soutien psychologique est souvent nécessaire, qu’il soit assuré par l’entourage du patient ou par un psychothérapeute spécialisé. Puis, après mûre réflexion du patient et consentement éclairé de ce dernier, la deuxième phase concrète du protocole ortho-chirurgical commence avec, encore une fois, une forte interaction patient/praticien pour éviter de laisser tomber le patient dans les travers de la cyber-médecine.

Abstract

The ortho-surgical patient is one who requires special care, this is often a source of apprehension for the orthodontist. Indeed, beyond implementing the right solution and controlling the technical aspect of the treatment, it puts the practitioner in a position of coordinator of a multidisciplinary team, focused on a patient requesting a lot of information and attention. Patient approach is a long process, it can be divided into two phases. The first phase is one of initial information and patient orientation intended for the different actors of the protocol, namely a maxillofacial surgeon, a physiotherapist or a speech therapist. A psychological support is also necessary, either from the patient’s family and/or from a psychotherapist. Then, after careful consideration and informed consent from the patient, the second practical phase of the ortho-surgical protocol begins, once more, with a high level of patient/ practitioner interaction, in order to prevent the patient from falling into the traps of e-medicine.
